Also, the study determined how\npatient health literacy influences the effectiveness of health\nliteracy-sensitive diabetes management intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study included 151 type-2 diabetic patients who were\nrandomly assigned to two groups; the social-media group or telephone-based\nhealth literacy-sensitive diabetes management intervention and the usual care.\nThe health literacy-sensitive diabetes management intervention initially has a\nface-to-face diabetes nurse education by using easy-to-read educational\nmaterial, the teach-back methods, and weekly action planning sessions for eight\nweeks guided with the use of social media on phone call for each groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the nine-week follow-up period, the patients who have\nhigh health-literacy showed higher activation in the&nbsp;<strong>control group<\/strong>,\nbut no significant changes were seen in these patients when intervention was\nprovided through social-media or telephone. However, patients who received the\ntelephone-based health literacy-sensitive diabetes management intervention have\na significantly higher score for self-care behavior in the usual care control\ngroup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the results, the study concluded that social\nmedia-based, health literacy-sensitive diabetes management intervention\neffectively reduces the disadvantages faced by people with low-literacy when\nattempting to improve self-care activation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reference:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kim SH, Utz S.
